Realtors begin parleys with landowners

Despite the Greater Noida authority's warning to builders not to get involved in the process of negotiations with farmers, several real estate players, who have huge stakes in Noida Extension, have begun approaching farmers.  “More than two dozen farmers had agreed to our proposal of an additional compensation of Rs 2,500 a fortnight ago. We're again holding secret, individual meetings with farmers,” said a builder’s agent.

Local youths claimed they were given incentives for helping in making deals between farmers and builders. "I was offered a 10% incentive by a builder's agent. He told me not to put pressure on farmers. All I had to do was to give offer details to farmers and know their reactions and demand," said a youth at Roza Yakoobpur.

Meanwhile, worried investors continue to pour in at Ground Zero -- Noida Extension -- from different cities even as talks between farmers and the Greater Noida authority are on for an out-of-court settlement.

“The Haryana government gives R20 lakh per bigha as land compensation. Here, farmers claimed to have received R7 lakh for the same size of land.”

Bhim Singh, 70, who came to Noida Extension from Kailthal village in Haryana, said, “My three sons have bought houses here. They had deposited the initial allotment money after selling a piece of their ancestral land.” 

“I met several farmers of Patwari and Bisrakh. The authority is now offering them all the benefits of the new rehabilitation policy provided they withdraw the court case. Farmers here are under stress,” he added.
