PCMC initiative for advance property tax payments

Citizens in Pimpri-Chinchwad who pay property tax in advance before August 31 will get a 10% concession in general tax this year. The general body of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) approved a resolution to this effect on Thursday.

While owners of residential properties will get a 10% concession, those with commercial properties will get a 5% concession in general tax. The tax includes general tax, fire tax, education cess and cleanliness tax.

From the next financial year (2012-13) citizens will have to pay the advance property tax before June 30 to be eligible for the concession.

The meeting, presided by mayor Yogesh Behl, also approved a proposal to waive octroi on domestic Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) and bicycles. A resolution to reduce octroi on petrol anddieselfrom 2.5%to1%was also approved. The proposals will now have to be approved by the state government.

Another proposal, to grant a 30%concession in property taxto the slum dwellers who have been rehabilitated under JNNURM, was also approved atthe meeting. As per the decision, the 30% concession will be valid for the first 10 years, after which it will increase to 50%.

Regarding the notices being served to citizens about unauthorised constructions, Congress corporator Bhausaheb Bhoir said that the citizens were scared of the prospect of their houses getting demolished. Bhoir suggested that a delegation comprising elected officebearers and officials should meet the chief minister to regularising these constructions. There are around 1.5 lakh onstructions which have been termed “unauthorised” as the owners have not been able to produce the requisite documents about building permissions.

Behl pointed out that the subject could not be discussed as the matter was sub-judice. He said that the state government had directed the PCMC to give a detailed proposal about the various categories of unauthorised constructions in the municipal limits. The town planning department has started preparing the proposal, which will be tabled before the GB in the next monthly meeting.
